Crop Pollination error "utf-8"

Ah, that’s right, thanks for the reminder that this is with the sample data! All the more reason that this is very strange.

OK, here’s another development build with some additional logging:

Could you try running this and upload the logfile once again?

Thank you!
James

Der James

Thanks a lot.

Here the newest log file

Fantastic, thank you @sibylles ! I see in this logfile that the original exception (the one relating to UTF-8) isn’t in there at all, which is very encouraging! There is still an error that’s being regularly logged, though. Could you try this development build once again and upload the logfile?

Also, how are the outputs looking? Are you able to open them up in a GIS software such as QGIS or ArcGIS?

Thank you!
James

Dear James

Thans a lot. Here the new file.

Dear James

Yes I was able to open the output graph in QGIS. Right, just black-white?

Kind regards

Sibylle

Fantastic! I’m delighted that the model outputs are opening up in QGIS as expected. Yes, I would expect them to be greyscale, and you can change the color ramps using QGIS’s symbology options.

I believe this issue is fixed, then! And, pending review, we will be sure to include this fix in a future release of InVEST. I have cleaned up the logging a bit in the development build linked below for anyone who finds this post before we release this fix for all users. Feel free to use it @sibylles if you would like … there will be less logging in the logfiles, but the model should still work as expected.

Thank you so much for all of your help debugging this @sibylles !!

James

Dear James

Wow Thanks a lot.

Hmm there are quite a lot red error messages on the log file ?

Kind regards

Sibylle

Well that is unexpected. OK, let’s keep going with the debugging! I’ve restored some extra debug logging in the development build below while still forcing UTF-8 mode. Could you try this out and upload the logfile here?

And could you also confirm whether you are able to open up model outputs in QGIS?

Dear James

Hmm still many errors.

However I can open the tiff files, but actually no different gray scales or colors.

Dear James

Here the open tiff file.

Hmm I just deleted the old InVEST versions, I do not know if this produced the errors now?

Sibylle

Well, I’m relieved that the GeoTiffs are still opening - that is a very good sign! So the model is working correctly - except for these error messages, which I’m still trying to understand what is causing them so we can fix this issue at the source. I’ve added some more logging to record the exact objects that are causing the error so we can (hopefully!) get at the root cause.

Dear James,

Find enclosed the new log file with the additional errors.

Thanks @sibylles ! I just realized that I accidentally linked the mac build, above, when I meant to link the windows build. Sorry about that! Could you try this build instead and (as usual) attach the logfile here?

Dear James

Hmm still many error codes.

However, I was able to open the tif files (no color range possible).

OK! I think this next build will finally get to the root of the issue and allow me to peek into what, specifically, is causing the error. Would you please install this development build and upload the logfile as usual? Thank you!

Regarding colors in QGIS, I think you should be able to select a color palette in the raster properties dialog by first selecting ‘singleband pseudocolor’, then selecting your desired color palette and then applying the changes. Because these rasters only have 1 band, the multiband color option is harder to configure. Here’s an example of colorizing one of the pollination outputs using QGIS:

Thank you! Ok, based on the logfile, the root cause of all of this error handling is actually raising a different type of exception than I was expected, so I’ve updated the logging in the development build below to try and get at this, specifically. Could you try this development build and upload the logfile once again?

Here’s the build: https://storage.googleapis.com/natcap-dev-build-artifacts/invest/phargogh/3.13.0.post46%2Bg35937048e/workbench/invest_3.13.0.post46%2Bg35937048e_workbench_win32_x64.exe

Thank you! Yes, there will still be errors, and there will be some additional logging in this one as well. We’re getting closer, though … I think I almost have enough information to reproduce this on my computer.

Could you try this development build and upload the logfile again?
