I am currently working on a project focused on the Chambal River Basin, and I am facing certain challenges related to data preparation and integration. Specifically, I am having difficulties with the soil hydrological data and the corresponding biophysical table required for the hydrological modeling component of the project.
Hello @abir, and welcome to the forum!
What kind of difficulties are you having? Finding data? Formatting it? If you’re looking for data, remember to check out the Data Sources section of the model’s User Guide chapter, which points to global sources of data that can help you get started. The User Guide can also help with formatting, and we always advise using the sample data provided for each model as a template for how to format your own data.

thank you so much…yes i got the outputs but i could not understand how to get the seasonal water yield because model do not provide direct raster for SWY… could you help in with that ??
because i need the water yield raster for each months
Hi @abir -
It is a little confusing that the SWY model doesn’t produce a single “monthly water yield” result. Instead, it provides quickflow results for each month, but only baseflow results annually. This is because baseflow is even more complex than quickflow, and the relatively simple methods we are using are not made for calculating baseflow monthly.
That said, there are a few methods that you can choose from to provide a rough approximation of monthly baseflow (with thanks to @jesseG for his input on this):
- Divide annual Baseflow equally 12 ways for each month
- Divide annual Baseflow proportionally, based on each month’s rainfall depth
- The more complex method outlined in the supplement to this paper. The description provided isn’t very detailed, so if you’re interested in it, I’ll talk with our hydrologist who implemented it.
Once you have monthly baseflow, you can add it to monthly quickflow to get total monthly water yield. But please remember that it’s very approximate.

im doing my summer project that is a assessment of seasonal water yield between two different river…i need pre monsoon , monsoon and post monsoon raster of SWY for both the rivers…can you tell me how to ?
Once you’ve calculated the total water yield for each month, you could just add up the months that make up pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon.

As part of my current project on Seasonal Water Yield Analysis, I have successfully obtained the model outputs. However, I require some guidance on the process for calculating seasonal water yield in raster format — specifically for the monsoon period — so that I can generate accurate seasonal water yield rasters.
Could you please provide me with the recommended methodology, tools, or workflow to derive the seasonal water yield raster from the existing output datasets?
Your assistance on this matter would be extremely valuable and greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support.
