Some questions about the blue carbon

Hello everyone,

I am learning to use blue carbon model, I wonder if Mt/ HA is the same unit as Megatonnes CO2 e per Hectare. And does Mt/ HA correspond to a unit grid in GIS? How do I make sure my units are correct?

Thanks,
muzi

Hi @muzili -

Yes, Mt/ HA is the same unit as Megatonnes CO2 e per Hectare. The User Guide also says this, “Although this user’s guide chapter refers to units in Megatonnes of CO2-equivalent per hectare, the model does no conversion of units whatsoever, and so any units representing the habitat-specific rate of accumulation or emissions, so long as they are consistent across all model inputs, may be used.”

The model will convert your input values per hectare to the appropriate carbon storage amount, based on the area of each grid cell in your input snapshot rasters.
