In the SWY model is it possible to use simple D8 flow direction instead of MFD

Dear all,
I would ask you if you think that it is possible to use the standard D8 flow direction instead of the MFD in the SWY model. Using the D8 method would be an additional simplification of the model but it would be easier for me now to follow the path of the water and check the results.
I can access the source code so I can try to modify some call to functions or variables, but I am not sure what to change and if it will have consequences on all the rest of the code.

Any help and suggestion is very appreciated.

I’m closing this so that we don’t duplicate efforts. In the future, this forum is probably the right place to have these conversations, and it makes our lives easier if questions are not asked in both places.
