Fairness in using a buffer in addition to the study area

Dear Community,

I am an Italian researcher and I am using Invest for the first time.
I am writing to discuss with you the correctness of using a buffer in addition to the study area under consideration.
Could it be a correct method to increase the detail of the simulation of the border areas? I.e. for crop pollination.

A thousand thanks,
Elisa

Hello @ElisaDM,

Welcome to the forums!

In the case of the pollination model, which includes pollinator flight patterns over an area of effect, buffering the boundary of your study area would ensure that the modeled pollinators near the actual boundary of your study area can find floral resources outside of your study area. So, I would recommend a buffer distance greater than or equal to the largest pollinator flight distance in your study.

Hope this helps!
James
